Nevis Accommodation Golden Rock Plantation Inn Sustainability

Pam Barry, Owner

Hostess and part owner Pam Barry lives onsite and enjoys telling guests about the history of the place and the medicinal qualities of plants found in the terraced gardens. Her direct ancestor built 10 handsome stone buildings back in 1815.

The buildings are in their original state and are now used as the centre of the inn. Some of their old names were Long House, Counting House, Kitchen, Wind Mill Tower, Carriage House and Horse Stable.

The Mill Tower is used today as a unique honeymoon suite or for families of 4 or 5. However many guests like to stay in the ocean view cottages, with 4 poster handmade beds.

Pam has dinner with her guests each night and at 10:30 am she also drives guests free of charge to our beach spot if they don’t want to drive themselves. Many guests become personal friends and come back again and again. You may feel as if you have stepped back in time.

Preserving the environmental integrity of the area.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Golden Rock Plantation Inn is committed to preserving the cultural and ecological uniqueness of Nevis so that we can better share the area's beauty with our guests.  The hiking and walking trails across our 96 acres lets visitors enjoy the outdoors while supporting the preservation of the vervet monkey's habitat.  The terraced tropical gardens showcase indigenous plants and herbal medicines.  Another means by which we try to maintain the island's cultural past is with the development of a 30 minute Nature Walk with over 30 different plants originally transplanted back in 1815.  To enhance your Nevisian experience we use local products at the inn in order to create a more authentic atmosphere for our guests.  The bamboo and mahogany four post beds were locally made, as were our grass rugs and colourful pineapple lamps.  We understand that by sustainably developing tourism we can support the conservation of the island while providing our guests a better experience.
